Our 3rd grade ESOL students probably feel like they have been testing forever! It can be difficult to stay motivated to do their best, but they continue to work hard. You should be very proud of your child's focus and effort. Only a couple more days for the 3rd graders.
Since testing is a part of our educational world right now, I thought it might be a good idea to focus on some of the positive reasons for testing.
1. Standardized testing is a metric for learning.
It helps us see the quality of what we are teaching and how our students are doing compared to students outside of our building. This helps us plan what we need to change or keep the same for next year.
2. Standardized tests help our school evaluate our progress.
We compare multiple years of data to see the trend of scores. Did the scores rise? fall? Why? We can re-evaluate each year to maximize what we are doing well.
Remember, to encourage your child to relax and do their best. Praise them when you know they tried hard, regardless of the outcome.
